A wide selection of themed, self-guided, Cycling Trails have been developed to showcase the best of Bendigo by bike. These trails vary in scenery, level of difficulty, surfaces and distances. Here are details about just some of the trails in and around Bendigo:
Riding Through History Trails
Discover the heritage of Bendigo... by bike! Every corner you turn in Bendigo reveals another living treasure; another vivid reminder of the city’s glorious and heady past – whether it is the outrageous opulence of a boomtown hotel, or the simple piety of a wooden church. The best 19th century cities combine grand scale and fine detail and there are few better than Bendigo. Four historic trails are included – Golden Gully, Bendigo Pottery & Creek, Iron Bark and Eaglehawk.
Bendigo Winery Cycling Trails
Fondly referred to as “The Winemakers’ Region”, the Bendigo wine region is characterised by small family owned wineries with the cellar door outlet set amongst the vines from which the wine is made. Visitors will often meet the winemakers, sleeves rolled up, tending to their vines or working in the winery. Four wine trails are included – Mandurang Valley, Harcourt Valley, Big Hill and Loddon Valley.
O’Keefe Rail Trail
Andrew O’Keefe successfully tendered for the construction project of the Heathcote to Sandhurst (now known as Bendigo) railway line. The first passenger train ran along the line in July 1888. Now a non-operating line, a cycling trail follows the old railway line. Revegetation has taken place along the way and it is now a corridor of green providing reserves for native plants and animals.
There are even more trails to further discover Bendigo and beyond by bike! These include the Great Dividing Trail, the Bendigo Bushland Trail, the Bendigo Creek Linear Trail and more.
